Filippo Brunelleschi (jan 1, 1377 – jan 1, 1446)

Description:

Filippo Brunelleschi was born in Florence, Italy in 1377. His family was not poor, they did well for themselves. He was intended to follow in the footsteps of his father, so he was given an education that consisted of mathematics and literature at a young age. However, he was artistically inclined and accepted into the Silk Merchant’s Guild. In 1398, Brunelleschi became a master goldsmith and sculptor. His first sculptures were made in 1399-1400, and made of bronze. The sculptures were of saints and evangelists. After sculptures, Brunelleschi’s first architectural project started in 1419. His project was an orphanage called Ospedale degli Innocenti. His next project was the Basilica of San Lorenzo. He was an architect for a long time after this, creating many beautiful cathedrals and other buildings, mostly related to religious affairs. Aside from architecture, he pioneered the linear perspective. This is now the way many other paintings were made in the renaissance. Brunelleschi died sometime in April of 1446.
