Description:
Rudolf 1 was the Count of Habsburg from 1240 and king of Romans until 1273. He inherited the largest state, known as present-day Switzerland. He was the first Habsburg to acquire the duchies of Austria and Styria contrary to his mighty rival, the Přemyslid king Ottokar II of Bohemia. The territories remained under Habsburg rule for more than 600 years, forming the core of the Habsburg Monarchy and the present-day country of Austria.Added to timeline:
