Rule of Louis XIV of France (jan 1, 1643 – jan 1, 1715)
Description:
His reign of 72 years and 110 days is the longest recorded of any monarch of a sovereign country in European history. Louis XIV is significant for radicially altering the balance of power in French politics: centralizing power in the monarchy and establishing a system of patronage and despotism that survived until the French Revolution. He brought the French monarchy to its peak of absolute power and made France the dominant power in Europe. His reign is also associated with the greatest age of French culture and art.
