Pope Clement VII was a Medici pope who was also an illegitimate child. Due to that fact he had to work very hard to become pope, since illegitimate children could traditionally not become pope. However, his cousin, pope Leo X, denied this tradition and appointed Clement as a cardinal, allowing him to become the next pope.Added to timeline:
