Shays' Rebellion (sep 1, 1786 – jun 1, 1787)
Description:
Shays' Rebellion was a violent revolt between September 1786 and June 1787 in Western Massachusetts in response to economic hardship, specifically against debt collection, since the schedules for paying the debts were unrealistic. Under the Articles of Confederation, the government struggled to subdue this tiny rebellion. Shays' Rebellion was historically significant BECAUSE it exposed the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation. It made many realize the Articles of Confederation were not working, and that a stronger central government had to be formed.
