Revolutionary War (jan 1, 1775 – jan 1, 1783)
Description:
In 1775, Lexignton and Concord, the first battle of the Revolutionary War, began. The colonists in America were tired of the tyranny of Britain, and seeked a democratic government. The continental army fought Britain in a course of several battles that took place in many different colonies. At the beginning of the war, the British army were winning the battles. Then, after using new strategies, such as the gorilla warfare, the Patriots (colonists) started winning the war.
In Yorktown, with the help of the French Army, the British army surrendered. This was when the colonists knew they won their independence and freedom from England.
This war shows that the government of Britain was definetly not a democratic one. Colonists did not have a representative in the Parliament, thus laws were passed without their approval. Colonists wanted to be represented in the Parliament, and without them knowing, they were seeking a democratic government. They, the people of the colonies, wanted to have power.
