Petrarch (jul 20, 1304 – jul 18, 1374)

Description:

Petrarch was born in Arezzo, a town near Florence. He moved about but eventually settled in Avignon once his father was banished from Florence. He was named one of the greatest scholars and was a model for Renaissance humanists, studying the influence of Classical authors. His poetry also inspired the formation of lyric poetry.
