Charles Darwin Lifetime (feb 12, 1809 – apr 19, 1882)

Description:

While in university, Darwin witnessed the censorship done by the church to any scientific claims that went against what was said in the bible. He would regularly attend talks from freethinkers that defied the common conservative views. Later in life, while writing his "On the origin of species" and "Natural Selection", he went into hiding on the outskirts of London out of fear of the church and it's influence. He stated to one botanist that believing in evolution was "like confessing to murder". His analogy was not an exageration, as some evolution supporters were being jailed for blasphemy at the time. Darwin remained agnostic for most of his life (not believing nor disbelieving in god) until 1951 when his oldest daugther Annie died from typhoid. From that point on Darwin cast away his faith.
