Manasseh - 55yrs Evil turned Good (jul 1, 697 BC – jun 30, 643 BC)

Description:

2 Kings 21. 2 Chron 33. Manasseh was only 12 when he started his reign and he clearly had some very ordinary advisors. In his time he was one of the worst kings, morally, and left a legacy of leading the children of Judah to err before Yahweh and to actually be worse than the heathen nations who Yahweh had cause to destroy previously. There was something about him though that Yahweh saw worth preserving as he is willing that none should perish. Yahweh brought the Assyrians against him and carted him off into captivity which caused Manasseh to severely reflect on himself. He genuinely humbled himself and repented of his attitude and ways causing Yahweh to bring him again to Jerusalem where he tried to undo the damage he had caused in the hearts of the nation. Unfortunately this was largely unsuccessful (v17) and after his death, his son Amon reigned in a wicked manner.
Manasseh's legacy was to last on and on, however, as the nation was so steeped in idolatry that Jeremiah was sent to prophesy during the reign of Josiah who was a good King.
Manasseh get a special mention in Jer 15/4 as being instrumental in Judahs wickedness.

3 “I will ordain four kinds of judgment for them” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “the sword to kill, the dogs to drag away, and the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the land to devour and destroy.
4 I will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth because of Manasseh son of Hezekiah, the king of Judah, for what he did in Jerusalem. -- Jeremiah 15:3-4 (CSB)
