Summer 1967 - Race Riots (jun 1, 1967 – aug 1, 1967)

Description:

The race riots in the summer of 1967 were some of the most violent and destructive riots in US history, the most serious ones being in Detroit, Michigan and Newark, New Jersey. They happened in many different cities due to white flight, unemployment, and racial tensions. The worst riot happened in Detroit after police arrested 85 people in a blind pig (an illegal after-hours club) and the event was mainly black people attacking police. As a result, President Lyndon B. Johnson established the Kerner Commission to investigate the riots.
