Black Power Movement (jan 1, 1963 – jan 1, 1979)
Description:
The Black Power Movement was first promoted by the likes of Malcolm X and Stokely Carmichael. This movement was based on fighting against racially-charged violence towards blacks, through any means. Stokely's belief was that blacks needed to feel a sense of racial pride and self respect before any meaningful gains could be made in the Civil Rights Movement. It was about "empowering" black Americans instead of using King's nonviolent tactics.
