Description:
Thomas Jefferson was the third President of the United States. His presidential inauguration was the first one to be held in Washington, D.C. One of his most important achievements was the purchase of the Louisiana Territory. In 1804, he ran to be re-elected. He won against Charles Pinckney. In his second term, Jefferson tried to keep America out of the Napoleonic Wars in Europe. He then created the Embargo of 1807 , which closed ports in the U.S to foreign trade. Jefferson did not run for a third term.
