First Mormon Missionaries in England (jan 1, 1837 – dec 31, 1837)
Description:
Led by the apostle Heber C. Kimball, 1837 Norman missionaries were sent to England for the first time in 1837. They were sent at the very beginning of the reign of Queen Victoria.In July they preached in Preston and had baptized their first nine coverts in the river Ribble that very same month. By the following May, they had already converted one one thousand individuals. The number of members in the U.K. has risen considerably since then. By 1850, the church had gained 30,747 new members in England alone.
