Israel is considered by multiple religions and faiths to be the 'Holy Land.' Israel was originally named Palestine and was under the control of the British until after World War II when it was finally acknowledged as an official state and was given the name Israel. The Balfour Declaration declared its aim to establish a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine which soon became Israel.
