Description:

The Cold War was an ongoing political rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies that developed after World War II. The Cold War got its name because both sides were afraid of fighting each other directly. In a "hot war," nuclear weapons might destroy everything. The Cold War lasted about 45 years. There were no direct military campaigns between the United States and the Soviet Union. Yet billions of dollars and millions of lives were lost in the fight.
