New Imperialism (jan 1, 1870 – jan 1, 1883)

Description:

The 1870’s and 1880’s witnessed a retreat from the free market and a return to state intervention in economic affairs. It was also a period of colonial expansion by Western European powers, the United States, Russia, and Japan. One reason why imperialism hurt the world is that it started racism, the idea that one race is better than another. Another thing that imperialism did is cause conflict and rivalries between countries trying to gain control of the areas full of the most resources and therefore profit for them.
