Constitutional Convention (may 25, 1787 – sep 17, 1787)
Description:
55 delegates representing every state, except Rhode Island met in Philadelphia. They met at the Pennsylvania State House. In attendance was; Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, James Madison, and Alexander Hamilton. No one was allowed to talk about the meeting, it was very secretive. The convention decided to create a whole new government. The new Constitution had three branches; executive, judicial, and legislative. A system of checks and balances was also put into place, to protect against corruption. Once, the Constitution was approved by the convention it was sent to the states for ratification.Added to timeline:
