French and Indian War (may 15, 1756 – feb 10, 1763)

Description:

One major conflict between France and Great Britain was the Ohio River valley. The French built a fort in the region, even though Virginia government had already granted land to wealthy planters. The Virginia governor proceeded to evict the French. This is went began the French and Indian was between France and Great Britain, for control of North America. In the first year of fighting, the British and their leader, George Washington, suffered many defeats against France. Angered that they were being defeated, King George the Second, selected new leaders to run government. One of whom was William Pitt, under his control the British began to win. One night in September, British troops launched a surprise attack on the French. This later brought them victory. The war ended in 1763 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris.
