galen was a physician, surgeon and philosopher in the Roman Empire. He had great expertise in anatomy, surgery, pharmacology, and therapeutic methods. He is famous for bringing philosophy into medicine and discovered that arteries carry blood. Galen thought anatomy as the foundation of medical knowledge and would dissect animals like primates which broght about surgical skills and techniques.
