Merrifield (Robert Bruce) (jul 15, 1921 – may 14, 2006)
Description:
Robert Bruce Merrifield's most pivotal accomplishment was inventing solid phase peptide synthesis in 1984. He's made many great strides in biochemistry since his research job in the 1940's, but this impacted humanity the most. This invention opened doors into more complex methods of synthesis in a quicker, more efficient way, leading to the technology we have today to be able to alter and customize peptides as we want. This invention was necessary to advance our medicine and technology in the ways that we have today.
