Even le Senechal de Kercado (jan 1, 1370 – jan 1, 1424)
Description:
VII. DEGREE
Even the Seneschal, Lord of Bot-Saint-Caradec, of Kercado & of Brohais, left under the tutelage & custody of his mother, added to his paternal property the Land & Lordie of Brohais, as heir of Guillot of QUÉNÉQUEN, said of Brohais , but not without some difficulty, having had a lawsuit on this subject with Jean of KERMAN, heir of the wife of Guillot of Quénéquen, who was called Alix of Quénéquen, & was of the same House as her husband. This is what we see by a judicial act made in the Jurisdiction of Pontivy on February 23, 1388.
As son & main heir & Noble of Alan the Seneschal, he made a similar one to the General Plaids of Loudéac on October 3, 1399, between himself & a Geoffroi HUGUET touching an exchange that the latter had made thirty years previously with Alan the Seneschal, & for which Joannette du Pont had sued her, during the time that she was tutor to Even. In the month of September 1412, he was given a confession by Olivier BAHUNO (or of BAHUNO), who confessed to keep from him legally & in faith his tenure with his memberships, acknowledged owing him fifteen deniers of chiefs-annuities, & promised of him obey as Liege should do to his Lord.
The Viscount of Rohan Alan VIII of ROHAN, of the name, having made in the Jurisdiction of Ploërmel on August 26, 1419, an act by which he approved the appraisal passed on April 12, 1412, between him & Pierre of Rieux husband of Jeanne of Molac, touching the exemption of redemption which they claimed for the Lands of Trébrimoel & of Bréhan, the act was sealed with the Seal of the Contracts of the Court where it is passed; And at the request of Viscount himself, Even le Seneschal also put his own which is of seven Macles to a Cotice, for the mark of the Youngest Son of the Lords of Kercado & their ramage or descendants of the old Sires, Feudal Sénéchaux & Heirs of Rohan.
Even the Seneschal being the only one of his name that we find in the time he lived, it seems beyond doubt that it was he who accompanied the Duke of Brittany Jean V. & his brother Artus of Brittany, Comte of Richemont , in the trip that these two Princes made to Amiens in 1423, to the Dukes of Bedfort & of Burgundy, to arrange an accommodation between King Charles VII. & the English. The Duke wished on this occasion to appear with the brilliance appropriate to his quality; & for that he led with him the Greatest Lords of his States with the principal Nobility. We see it by a charge he gave to the Treasurer of his House on June 23, 1425, The Count of Porhoet Alan IX of ROHAN, named after, eldest son of the Viscount of Rohan Alan VIII, is appointed there at the head of five Gentlemen of his Viscount, the first of which is his uncle Charles of ROHAN, Lord of Guémené Guingamp, younger brother of Alan VIII. & tenth common ancestor of MISTER the Princes of Guémené & of Soubize. There are also between Chambellans or Chefs of Chambre Messire Jehan of KERMELLEC, Messire Robert d'ESPINAY, Messire Guillaume l'EVESQUE, Jehan of MUSILLAC, Guillaume EDER, & between the Squires Jean of MALESTROIT, Rolland of LANNYON, Olivier II of ROHAN, from the name Lord of Gué-of l'Isle, who, according to the History of the Grand Officers of the Couronne, was from the third to the fourth DEGREE parent of Viscount Alan VIII, & of Charles of Rohan, Lord of Guémen-Guingamp. Finally, besides Pierre du BOISGÉLIN & those who were named with him in the article of his name, appear in the same capacity as Even the Seneschal a Jehan le VOYER, a Guillaume of COETDIC, an Olivier du BOISJÉGU, a Pierre RAGUENEL , a Brient of MONTFORT, an Etienne du CAMBOUT, an Olivier of COET LOGON, & among them an Alan of ROHAN, probably brother of Olivier of Rohan, Lord of Gué-of l'Isle.
Even the Seneschal received two more homage recognitions, one on July 8, 1424 the other on the 26th of the same month of the year 1427. He even spent October 9, 1429, with Olivier Sire of CHASTEL, an agreement which is sealed with a Seal like that seen above, & died in the course of the same year or in the beginning of the following year.
He had married JEANNE LA VACHE, who by deed of December 27, 1431, had the Manor & Land of Brohais for his dower, with what had belonged to her husband in the Parishes of Nulliac, of Mur & of Cléguérec, at the Bois du Manoir & of the entire Jurisdiction of the Land reserve. From this marriage came seven daughters.
The first were
1. THÉBAULD or THIBAULT the Seneschal which follows.
2. OLIVIER the Seneschal to whom Thébaud had given his share on October 4, 1413, by an act in which it is said that it was with the consent of Even the Seneschal their common father, that the eldest considering the great-grandson dilection that 'had for him his Youngest Son & the great services he had done both to himself personally and to their father Even the Seneschal & to Jouannette du Pont their own, he took it & received from Man for the inheritances that the even Even had formerly given him as his eldest son by advancing his right of nature; that he granted him to enjoy it as of his own inheritance to him and his heirs in the future, on the sole charge of keeping these inheritances in Youngest Son of elder; & that Olivier having accepted this condition paid the homage as in such a case belonged.
3. JEAN, &
4. ALAN the Seneschal, the sharing of which was settled jointly with the general Plaids of Ploërmel on November 15th, 1429, but for life only & as a Benefit, under the terms of the Assise du Comte Geoffroi.
5. ROLAND, &
6. a second JEAN the Seneschal who were also shared together on the same footing as the precedents by a single act delivered to the General Plaids of Pontivy on March 3, 1433.
7. YVON or YVES the Seneschal, successively Monk & Abbey of the Holy Saviour of Redon in the Diocese of Vannes, a character who deserves to be treated of him under a particular title.
