Alfred Marshall (jan 1, 1842 – jan 1, 1924)

Description:

Popularized the neoclassical paradigm through his textbook, Principles of Economics (1890, and several later editions). Though he wrote about land and rent, his most important contributions were regarding supply and demand, producer and consumer surpluses, marginal utility, elasticity, and industrial districts. His most important contribution to rent theory was the concept of quasi-rents. He also argued that land is unique due to the intrinsic uniqueness of land, the irreversability of modifications to land, and difficulty of augmenting land supply.
