Attack on Erzurum (feb 11, 1916 – feb 14, 1916)

Description:

The offensive was scheduled for February 11th. The artillery preparation began at 14.00, and at 23 o’clock the Russian troops launched an assault. Yudenich’s expectations were justified, the Turks, not seeing the attacking Russian units, were forced to fire blindly, at random, practically without causing harm. Russian soldiers burst into enemy positions. For two days, the fighters of the shock groups broke open the northern flank of the Turkish defense, taking one fortified position after another, capturing one impregnable fort after another, and on February 13 reached the strongest and last line of defense of the fortress on the northern flank, Fort Taft. On February 14, Fort Taft, attacked by Kuban plastunas and arrows of the 2nd Turkestan Corps, fell. Ruwiki
