McKinley was a Republican that served from 1897 to 1901, finishing out the Gilded Age. His presidency followed the Panic of 1893. He was in support of raising taxes. He was assassinated in 1901 a few months after his second inauguration in Detroit by an unemployed mill worker.Added to timeline:
