Alessando Scarlatti (jan 1, 1660 – jan 1, 1725)

Description:

an Italian Baroque composer, known especially for his operas and chamber cantatas. He is considered the founder of the Neapolitan school of opera. He was the father of two other composers, Domenico Scarlatti and Pietro Filippo Scarlatti.

Opera Seria and Its Makers
1. Alessandro Scarlatti wrote 114 operas, many serenatas (miniature operas), and over
800 cantatas in a style associated with Naples.
2. Scarlatti laid the foundation for opera seria.
