Reformatory Era (dec 1, 1876 – oct 1, 1890)

Description:

The reformatory era was based on the ideas of education, behavior training, and work training. During this Era various countries were experimenting with good behavior release, which lead to a system of earning credits to buy freedom. These ideas soon lead to the creation of probation. The reformatory era was considered a failure due to inmates quickly returning to crime after being released.
