Roman Exile גלות אדום (jan 1, 70 – jan 1, 2021)
Description:
The last of the traditional four exiles.
The armies of the Roman Empire destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem during the Judean Revolt, causing a halt in Jewish sacrificial worship that continues to this day.
Following the destruction, the Jewish people under Roman rule in the Land of Israel and the diaspora faced increasing oppression, and the Jewish population was gradually displaced from the Land of Israel.
Following the Roman Empire's conversion to Christianity, Christian emperors continued to persecute the Jewish people. Because of this, the Roman Exile became associated with the oppression of the Jewish people within Christian societies.
Jewish tradition considers the many displacements and persecutions of the Jewish people under Christian hegemony in Europe and around the world to be a continuation of the Roman Exile, along with all other instances of anti-Semitic persecution up to the present day.
According to Jewish tradition, the Roman Exile will end when the Messiah arrives to bring world peace, allow the displaced Jewish people to return to their homes, and re-establish the Jewish Temple as the Third Temple in Jerusalem.
