French wars of religion (jan 1, 1568 – jan 1, 1598)
Description:
Popularity of Calvinism forced Catherine Medici to become tolerant towards them. This angered the Guise family who would continue to fight against Protestantism and lead to the ST. Bartholomew's day massacre that massacred thousands of protestants because the king thought they had gathered to overthrow him. This would lead to the war of the three henrys.
