Helped develop the theory of modern synthesis (jan 1, 1930 – jan 1, 1940)

Description:

Mayr in the 1930's and 1940's helped develop the idea of modern synthesis, later given its name by Julian Huxley. The idea of modern synthesis combines work done by both Darwin and Mendel. Specifically, it integrated the theory of heredity that was outlined by Mendel, and Darwin's theory of evolution, inclusive of the idea of natural selection. This idea overall is a large part of the modern theory of evolution and is relatively similar to the commonly held beliefs in Mayr's time since Darwin's theory of evolution and Mendel's work of genetics were already beginning to be more often studied and understood by scientists.
