Description:

Montessori lost her mother in 1912. She was told by her son, Mario, that he knew she was his mother, and they were reunited. Montessori dedicated her life to the promotion of the Montessori Method. Her methods became well-respected world-wide, and her books were translated into English. The Montessori Method was published in U.S. She traveled the world and trained educators on her methods. Her work was well-respected. Mussolini became prime minister of Italy in 1922. He saw the miracle in Montessori schools, and endorsed Montessori schools, although his views of control did not match up with Montessori’s free-thinking views and methods. In 1931, all school teachers were required to pledge allegiance to fascism; Montessori refused, and left Italy. All Montessori schools in Italy were closed within months of her refusal. IN 1932, Montessori gives a lecture on Peace and Education.
All Montessori schools in Germany were destroyed in 1933, under the Nazi regime. Maria Montessori continued her work throughout the world, publishing more books and training teachers during this time. In 1936, materials for Cosmic Education are used in the Netherlands. (montessori-ami.org)
