Maria and Mario go to India (jan 1, 1939 – jan 1, 1946)
Description:
Maria goes to India to run a training course. In 1940, Italy enters into WWII on the side of Germany. Maria and Mario are considered alien enemies in a British colony. Maria is placed under house arrest, and Mario is put in an internment camp. Maria was stranded in India for 7 years, but British authorities allowed her to travel. She personally trained over 1000 Montessori educators during this time. On her 70th birthday, she was presented a telegram from the British government; her son Mario, was returned to her. She furthered her development of the Cosmic Education Plan for the Elementary years. The war came to an end, and she returned to Europe in 1946.
