BATTLE OF BRITAIN This battle took place between the respective air forces of Britain and Germany, which was the first time in history where a battle was fought solely in air. Although Britain lost France as an ally, they were supported by other countries, so that a quarter of their pilots came from foreign countries. They were able to significantly weaken German forces and gave Hitler his first major defeat. (jul 10, 1940 – oct 31, 1940)
