First 5 year plan (oct 1, 1928 – dec 1, 1932)
Description:
- Laid out production quotas (not means)
- Managers falsified production figures (they did not meet the targets)
- Used as propaganda to inspire the workers. People were encouraged to work harder in order to build a better society
- Those who opposed the plan were put on public trial as saboteurs. Effectively removed Stalin's opposition
- Living standards didn't rise, and workers rights did not improve
- Mass labour instead of more efficient machines used
- Agriculture consistently lacked funds, which were allocated to industrialisation instead
