Japan nuclear accident at Fukushima (mar 11, 2011 – mar 7, 2012)
Description:
A magnitude 9.0 earthquake generating an estimated 45-foot tsunami at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. A hydrogen explosion occurs at unit 3. The three affected reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi site remain in a stable, cold shutdown condition. Mid- and long-term recovery actions have begun in a 3- phased approach. Decommissioning is anticipated to be completed in 30-40 years from the date of the accident.
