James I (dec 11, 1603 – jun 15, 1625)

Description:

He understood little about the laws of England, and espoused the divine right of kings. This view alienated Parliament. James did not listen to Parliament and did not grant any of their requests. The puritans wanted Jame to eliminate the episcopal system, but he refused because the Anglican Church was a major support to his power/the monarchy. English gentry were angry, because they had all become Puritans and were not getting the king's help.
