Persian Gulf War (aug 2, 1990 – feb 28, 1991)

Description:

In early 1990, Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. This prompted other Arab powers to request help from the U.S. and other Western Nations. The U.N. security council gave Hussein a deadline to withdraw from Kuwait - mid-January 1991. After Hussein denied this demand, the war began with a massive U.S.-led offensive titled "Operation Desert Storm." After this attack, "Operation Desert Sabre" was launched on the ground. The war ended 4 days after this operation began, and Kuwait was liberated. Iraq lost around 30,000 soldiers while coalition forces lost around 300. President Bush did not force Hussein to resign, and uprisings against Hussein occurred in which Hussein was accused of using chemical weapons, leading to U.S. inspections.
