Iranian Hostage Crisis (nov 4, 1979 – jan 20, 1981)
Description:
Carter allowed the exiled Shah of Iran, Mohammad Pahlavi, into the US to undergo cancer treatment. The revolutionaries in Iran were lead by the Ayatollah Khomeini, and he was not happy the US let him in. He decided st storm the US embassy in Iran. He took 54 hostages and kept them for 444 days. Carter said he would not negotiate with terrorists. Khomeini finally released the hostages in January 20 1979, when Ronald Reagan was sworn in as president.
