Colonization of Africa (jan 1, 1880 – may 1, 1890)
Description:
Beginning in 1880, European powers engaged in a frantic competition for colonies in Africa. Most were successful, but one notable failure was that of Italy in their attempt to conquer Ethiopia and Liberia, which stayed free. Many Africans resisted this imperialist aggression and thousands died. This struggle was dubbed the "Scramble for Africa" and was motivated political, economic and social motives.
