First Opium Wars (nov 1, 1839 – nov 1, 1843)
Description:
Through the Opium Wars, the British succeeded in securing their demands for trade & took control of the important trading center of Hong Kong with the treaty of Nanking of 1842. The Chinese came into the conflict with the desire to suppress the opium trade, which was a major source of profit for the British economy.
