Treaty Of Versailles (jun 28, 1919 – mar 28, 1936)

Description:

The Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty between the six nations, France, Germany, Britain, Austria-Hungary, Japan and the United States after World War I

CAUSES
One of the many causes of the Treaty of Versailles was reparations. Over 20000 French factories were destroyed during the war meaning that France and Britain needed to cover the costs of the war. They needed lots of money in order to rebuild their economies.

The fear the allies had of another war caused limitations on Germany's armed forces. In order to minimise the fear for their safety, they decided that Germany should have no way of attacking the allies. This was especially pushed by France, as they were right next to Germany.

EFFECTS
The allies had so much power over Germany that they felt humiliated. They were made to feel vulnerable as they were unable to defend themselves.

The treaty actually ended up leading to many disputes over the next few years. The one country the league could have been good for was alienated and meant that Germany's exclusion from the league caused more anger.
