NHA (sep 1, 1909 – dec 11, 1918)
Description:
The National Hockey Association was one of the largest professional hockey leagues predating the NHL. Founded by Ambrose O’Brien in 1909. This league pulled a large number of talented players from other smaller professional hockey leagues. This league was known for introducing the 6v6 hockey that we know today (Before this most leagues played 7v7). During its existence the NHA had troubles with talent going off to fight in WW1. This league was suspended in 1917 due to problems with one of the owners in the league. The other owners suspended the league and created the NHL.
