Manuel Azaña becomes Prime Minister (oct 15, 1931 – sep 15, 1933)
Description:
Azana was the minister of the war during the first part of the Second Spanish Republic, but when the first Second Spanish Republic prime minister Niceto Alcala Zamora resigned, he succeeded him in October 1931. He was prime minister until September 1933, and during this time he would attempt to enforce the articles in the new constitution and was harsh to the groups of the army, monarchists, anarchists, and church. Another notable thing that Azana did was help form the Popular Front, the left-wing collation that would win the 1936 election. In 1936 he would then become the President of the government after the previous President was removed, but was able to do little before the civil war broke out.
