El Bienio Negro (The two black years) (nov 19, 1933 – nov 19, 1935)
Description:
El Bienio Negro, also known as the "Two Black Years" was the period of time following the November elections which CEDA had won. Radicals in turn, became more aggressive, and conservatives taking paramilitary actions. There was increased political violence in this period, including many assassination attempts. There were many strikes in opposition to the CEDA's entrance to government and is also the time when the Asturian Miner's Strike occurred. The poor political environment was a precursor to the civil war and with the CEDA government weak and losing the upcoming election, they would start planning how to take control of the state through force.
