The Casas Viejas Massacre (jan 10, 1933 – jan 12, 1933)
Description:
Casas Viejas, the small town in the province of Cádiz, was the location of a massacre that was caused during an attempt to put down an uprising. Workers of the CNT were marching down the streets of Casas Viejas believing they were starting a revolution. Anarchists went into hiding and barricaded themselves within a house. The Assault and Civil Guards arrived and set fire to the house with all the anarchists and their families alive. The massacre sparked an outrage and weakened the position of the revolutionary left. This event lasted from the 10 of January to the 12th of January in 1933.
