First Circumnavigation of Earth (sep 20, 1519 – sep 6, 1522)
Description:
On September 20, 1519, Ferdinand Magellan left Spain on a voyage to explore the Pacific. Although Magellan was killed in a battle in Mactan, some of the crew survived and managed to complete the journey, which became the first circumnavigation of the Earth. This event marked advances in nautical and navigational technology and symbolized the start of a new age of globalization.
