Beer Hall Putsch (nov 8, 1923 – nov 9, 1923)

Description:

Throughout the 1920’s the Weimar Republic was challenged, with multiple workers uprisings and a major solid resistance from working class organisations – lasting 4 days. Through Germany extremist parties were exploiting chaos and communists joined the social democrat party. The Nazis lost respect due to the Weimar Republic – resulting in them plotting to seize power. Hitler in charge, he took inspiration from Benito Mussolini to make an attempt of a takeover of Bavaria within Munich. Leading his followers, they surrounded one of the biggest beer halls in Munich but he left deal with other crises. This led to his followers being forced to leave and the plan was foiled. The split between Hitler and Ludendorff followed as well as Hitler’s 5 year prison sentence for treason, in which he served for under a year. After his release, Hitler began to rebuild the Nazi party, carrying out an elaborate march every year on the anniversary of the Beer Hall Putsch. A decade later, Hitler was elected chancellor, leading the country to WWII shortly afterward.
