First Fleet lands in Australia (jan 1, 1788 – jan 1, 1788)
Description:
It’s known that in 1788 the first fleet of 11 ships arrived in Australia, transporting roughly 1500 people including, convicts, soldiers, farmers, officers, etc. Britain was in dire need of a place to send their ever-increasing number of convicts. They sent over 160,000 convicts between 1788 and 1868. Australia was not only an amazing solution to Britain’s convict issue, it also provided a massive area to colonise under Britain’s name, and creating the world the that us, Australians, live in.
