Description:

The “Californian gold rush” begun in California after a large amount of gold was discovered at Sutter’s Mill in 1848. The first census in California was conducted in 1860 and showed that there were roughly 308,000 citizens in the territory, this number had more than tripled in the time during the gold rush. It’s estimated that the total worth of all the gold that was mined exceeded $2,000,000,000 ($2 billion). The gold rush had a major effect on the history of California and surrounding states. It greatly boosted the development of California and eventually helped transform itself to a state.
