To break Chinese resistance - the general of Japa ordered for the city of Nanking to be completely destroyed. Majority of the city was burned, and the rest was ruined. Not only was the city's infrastructure destroyed. Its civilians were abused beyond belief. The Japanese soldiers launched a campaign of atrocities.
