 - Establishing the Empire
   > Maintain Manchu identity
  > Use bannermen 
         Manchu families were divided into 8 
            different banners
         Banners served as the basis for military 
            units stationed throughout strategic 
            areas of China
        Also served as a basic government 
           structure
                *Some loyal Chinese were included in 
                  this new structure i.e. given power in 
                  the new rule
  > Woo Chinese into accepting new dynasty
        2 leaders – one Manchu, one Chinese
        Have to convince Ming scholars to work 
           with new Manchu leaders
  > The “Machu Queue”
        Mandatory acts to show allegiance to new 
           leaders
               * Men – Manchu hairstyle (Similar to 
                   Kozak “ponytail”)
               * Women – Prevented their 
                  engagement in “Foot-binding”
                          - an attempt to stop inter 
                             marriage
