 Manchu families were divided into 8
different banners
 Banners served as the basis for military
units stationed throughout strategic
areas of China
 Also served as a basic government
structure

this new structure i.e. given power in
the new rule

 2 leaders – one Manchu, one Chinese
 Have to convince Ming scholars to work
with new Manchu leaders
> The “Machu Queue”
 Mandatory acts to show allegiance to new
leaders
* Men – Manchu hairstyle (Similar to
Kozak “ponytail”)
* Women – Prevented their
engagement in “Foot-binding”
- an attempt to stop inter
marriage
